Craig is correct in saying that as teachers, we are not only teachers, we are often parents, social workers, psychologists, managers, etc. I agree with him and believe that teachers deserve more respect for what we do for our society than we get.

Many teachers that teach are not even in it for the money, but it's because we believe in helping to shape the future. The general public always say that teachers are over-paid and have the summers off, but when asked why they didn't go into the teaching profession, they reply, "Well, I could never handle a classroom of 25 or more students!!"

Compared to other upper management jobs, teachers don't get a bonus at the end of the year or get a lot of recognition for our contributions to helping to shape our future, but we still keep teaching, not because of the pay, but because we believe in what we do. Often time, teachers have to pay for their own life-long learning and training because of the lack of funding.

I think it is disgraceful that the government, is trying to take away the benefits that we deserve. The government is trying to make teachers look bad because we want to have benefits that match the stress level and workload that we have to endure throughout the year. These cuts will not only hurt the teachers, but will hurt the students and parents in the long run. I am tired of the government and the rest of the general public disrespecting teachers and making us feel that the teaching profession is not important.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.com
